This is what to study:
Bold words in Bowditch in the following chapters. Please note, I am including the "articles" that are not included in the test - look at the book, each topic is numbered by chapter & then subject within tha chapter.
Test #1:
Chapter 1 - everything, excluding articles 102, 109-117, 120-123 and 126-end.
Chapter 2 - only the definition of datum found on page 19. You could just remember "a reference point for measurement"
Chapter 3 - everything except articles 303, 307- 310, 314-315, 317-319, 322-323, 341-342.
Beginning definitions in Chapter 5
Test #2
Chapter 4 - everything except 415-417, 419-420, 422. Don't forget to review Luminous Range, Geographic Range (table 12), Nominal Range and Visible Range!
Chapter 5 - everthing except 503, 505, table 506, 510-512, 514, 528-529, 531-532.
Chapter 6 - everthing except the "physics" and 607-616, 621-623. This is the STCW component of this class!!!! For gyo error - know that it is caused by improper setting of Latitude & speed, power surges or outages, friction in the gears, wear and tear, dust. Don't worry about the "physics" sounding stuff.
Test #2
Chapter 9 - everthing except the "physics" and 902-903, 927-end. What can be found in the Tide Tables & Tidal Current tables will be included. Basically that they are publications that give the time of the tidal events (ebb, flood, slack, high and low tides) at specific locations. Spped of current or height of tide in those locations for that specific time.
Chapter 18 - Know only 1804-1806 and figure 1806. Don't forget to look at the ETA tab of this website.
Chapter 31 - know what causes ocean currents and all the specifics of the North Atlantic Currents that we discussed in class (3106). Focus on the notes from class.
